"The Most Beautiful Girl in the World" depicts an early childhood love affair with Mattel's iconic doll, Barbie. Through the lens of youth, and with the help of Barbie's platonic boyfriend, Ken, a hidden identity is revealed. The poem was inspired by a late-night reading of Sandra Cisneros' "Barbie-Q."
