I recently read a post on my new favorite blog, I Art New York. Part of the post was on the Gustav Klimt portrait of Adele Bloch-Bauer I. You can read the post here. Of course, to any art lover, this classic work is instantaneously recognizable. However, what stood out for me is that this work was the inspiration behind one of three Collectable Barbie Dolls based on famous portraits/paintings. If anyone knows me, they know that I heart Barbie, and when the people at Mattel find a way to mix my favorite gal with other loves, like art, fashion, music, movies, etc., I’m there. For me, it is a true form of inspiration. Being able to blend a cultural icon with other iconic images, people, ideas… holds a certain power that transcends media. So, in response to the image and post of Klimt’s portrait, I offer up this work of art.
